Pastor's Ponderings

Pastors’ Ponderings . . .

Gray and sleeting,

gray and snowy,

gray and slippery

and slushy

and dark

and gray!!

How can a New Year be heralded in with excitement

when everything is so gray?

And yet,

(I love that,

the hint of the world about to be turned upside down in two simple words:

and yet)

. . .in Christ’s birth, God started something brand-new

in the middle of the dark of the night.

. . . all the glory of resurrection was first revealed

in the cold and gray of pre-dawn light.

Maybe new beginnings,

and new years,

NEED to begin in such dismal surroundings.

Maybe new beginnings,

and new years,

need to start at the time of the least light,

and our lowest morale,

so that we will be freed from our own desire to interpret

and re-define,

what is happening.

So that we can look at new beginnings,

and new years,

with eyes that are willing to look for signs of hope,

with hearts that hunger for inspiration,

with souls that long for miracle,

and with the faith that believes all things.

“See”, God said, “I am making all things new!”

Greet this New Year with excitement and joy,

with open eyes and eager hearts!

Greet this New Year with anticipation,

willing to experience again the wonder of our God,

who can, and does, make all things new

through the love made known to us in Christ!

Happy New Year!!
